"In May of 2009, we found RHD.  What an amazing facility.  What an incredible staff of motivated, hard-working, and caring people... so talented in their art and so fabulous in their abilities to connect to people like our daughter.  Everyone at RHD has been so positive and is all about building a relaxed and creative environment to bring out the best in each of their participants.  The art shows are outstanding.  My daughter beams at each event."

Maggie, Parent of Artist

Art Studios

The goal of our art studios is to provide individuals labeled developmentally disabled with the tools and materials to create art and the supports to define themselves as artists.  We work for artists with a range of disabilities, in particular people whose challenging behavior or health issues made them a poor fit with more traditional day services.

Individuals who participate in the art studio are considered professional artists and have the opportunity to showcase and sell their art work in our gallery and in the local community.  They are supported by a team of trained artists that strive to integrate our studio into the larger art community.  We encourage the involvement of local artists and patrons.

Artists that attend our studio have opportunities to explore a variety of art mediums, including but not limited to, painting, sculpting, graphic design, illustration, printmaking, drawing, silk screening, dance and movement, performing arts, photography, video, and music.

In addition to our art-related activities, our artists are encouraged to explore their community by taking trips to local museums, parks, concerts, shopping for supplies, and participating in volunteer opportunities.

RHD-Missouri has two art-based day programs in the St Louis Metropolitan area.  For more information about these two studios, please see below.

BLANK CANVAS STUDIOS (BCS)

In February of 2009, RHD-Missouri opened its first art-based day program/studio in St Charles County to support people with developmental disabilities.  Not knowing entirely what to expect, the name "Blank Canvas Studios" seemed to be a perfect fit!

Although the name has stuck around (sometimes abbreviated BCS), the canvases are definitely not blank.  BCS provides art opportunities to nearly 50 artists.  BCS hosts two art shows per year with gross sales at each show averaging $4000 in sales and attendance at the art shows averaging 300.  Artists at BCS have been commissioned and also featured in community art galleries.

Blank Canvas Studios is located at:

122 Point West
St Charles, MO 63301

You can reach us at (636) 724-6616

FINE LINE STUDIOS
(FLS)

Given the overwhelming response and support of our art studio in St Charles County, RHD-Missouri made the decision to expand its services into St Louis County.  In December 2010, the doors of "Fine Line Studios" opened!  Initially supporting 10 artists, FLS continues to receive referrals and expects to grow to at least 35 artists by July 2011.

Fine Line Studios is located at:

12153 Bridgeton Square Drive
Bridgeton, MO 63044
